Very well researched and written alternative history. Starts just after the Battle of Britain when Hitler convinces Spain to join the Axis.With Gibraltar taken and the western Med closed off it is on to Malta for Germany. Most of the first half of the book deals with this alternative campaign and other changes to what we know.
Then it leaps forward to 2020 when another war breaks out and the Modern day Desert Rats end up in WW2. I like how the author merges the timeline and integrates the 7th Armored into WW2. Also some of the timeline changes with battles that never occurred or were won instead of lost etc. And the development of new tanks by both sides. He also tackles logistics of trying to keep a 21st Century armored brigade supplied and how parts and ammo are a factor. I have never been into alternative history much but this book has changed my opinion of it.
I recommend readers read the introduction as it provides background on the series this book was written from.

I liked this one. I'm assuming I should read the whole series though.
Loved the format and the actual information from the real battles! I am very excited to read the next book!
Book is not bad, but it jumps around little too much for my liking.
War in the desert as only Schettler can write it. Great battle book from his much beloved Kirov series. Lots of action for fans like me!
I picked up on this Kirov series some time ago, but never could seem to get into it. This is apparently a new series using the older one as a jump off point, and as such I much preferred it. The writer is skilled and knowledgable with regard to his history, but he also has some clear biases in his attitudes towards some of the historical figures he must deal with. Plus, even here, the narrative occasionally seemed to drag. Still, it is delightful to see an alternate history that is clearly well edited and thought provoking. I enjoyed it.
